Cairo by Night: Cairo Tower, Khan el-Khalili & Al Moez

Cairo comes alive after dark, and this private evening tour shows you two sides of it. We collect you from your hotel and drive to Gezira Island, where a lift takes you up Cairo Tower to the open-air observation deck. From up there the city spreads out in every direction: lit-up bridges over the Nile, the towers of downtown and the endless glow of a city of twenty million.

Then we cross to Islamic Cairo and Khan el-Khalili, the old bazaar that has been trading since the late 14th century. Your representative leads you through lanes hung with lanterns, past spice stalls, brass and lamp shops and perfume sellers, and lends a hand when it's time to haggle. There's time for a mint tea in one of the old coffee houses if you fancy one.

The evening finishes on Al Moez Street, a pedestrian stretch lined with mosques, madrasas and merchants' houses from the Fatimid and Mamluk eras. Floodlit at night and busy with local families out for a walk, it's one of the most atmospheric streets in the city. You're back at your hotel about four hours after pickup.
