Overview
A full day from Cairo to Port Said at the Mediterranean mouth of the Suez Canal, with a driver for the day and free time on the waterfront and beach.
Port Said was founded in 1859, when work began on the Suez Canal, and it still feels like a city that faces the water. We pick you up from your hotel in Cairo or Giza for a drive of around two and a half to three hours north-east, through the desert and then alongside the canal.
There's no guide on this trip, just your driver, which leaves you free to spend the time as you like. Watch container ships slide past along the canal, wander streets of old buildings with wooden balconies, take the ferry across the water to Port Fouad, or sit by the Mediterranean on the beach.
This is a shared small-group trip, and your driver agrees a meeting point and return time with the group in Port Said. You're back at your hotel in Cairo about eight hours after pickup.
