Overview
A long day across the border to Jordan's UNESCO-listed Petra: walk the Siq to the Treasury with a guide, explore the ancient city and stop for lunch.
Petra is a long way from the Red Sea resorts, which is why this is a long day. We collect you from your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh before dawn and travel north along the Gulf of Aqaba to the border, where your guide helps with the formalities before continuing into Jordan.
At Petra you walk with your guide through the Siq, a narrow gorge whose sandstone walls rise high on either side, until it opens suddenly onto the carved façade of the Treasury. Beyond it the Nabataean city spreads out: the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs cut into the cliffs and a theatre carved from the rock, all glowing pink and orange in the sun.
Lunch is included before the return journey. The trip is planned at around 10 hours, but border crossings can stretch it, so expect an early pickup and a return after dark. It's a shared small-group tour, and your passport is essential.
