Overview
A full day from Sharm El Sheikh to hike on Moussa Mountain, the peak known as Mount Sinai, with wide desert views, a guide on the trail and lunch included.
Moussa Mountain, the Mountain of Moses, is the peak most people know as Mount Sinai, rising more than 2,200 metres above the desert of South Sinai. We collect you from your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh early in the morning and drive inland, the road climbing into ever higher, barer granite ranges.
From the village of St Catherine your guide leads the way up the trail, a steady climb on rocky paths with the views widening at every turn: folded red and grey mountains, deep valleys and the walls of St Catherine's Monastery far below. The path is uneven and steep in places, so a reasonable level of fitness helps, and you set your own pace with regular rests.
Lunch is included before the drive back to the coast, and you're at your hotel about eight hours after setting off. It's a shared small-group trip; how high you climb depends on your pace and the time available on the day.
