Overview
A long but rewarding day: fly from Cairo to Luxor for the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple, Karnak and Luxor Temple, then fly back the same evening.
Luxor, ancient Thebes, holds more monuments than almost anywhere else in Egypt, and with an early flight you can see the best of them without spending a night away from Cairo. We collect you from your hotel before dawn and take you to Cairo Airport for the flight south, about an hour in the air.
In Luxor your guide and private car are waiting. You start on the West Bank in the Valley of the Kings, where the tombs of the New Kingdom pharaohs are cut deep into the hills and painted in colours that still glow. Nearby, the Temple of Hatshepsut climbs in terraces against the cliffs.
In the afternoon you cross to the East Bank for Karnak, a vast temple complex whose hall of 134 giant columns is one of the great sights of Egypt, and then Luxor Temple, linked to Karnak by an avenue of sphinxes. An evening flight takes you back to Cairo and you're driven to your hotel, roughly fourteen hours after pickup.
