Overview
A half day on Luxor's West Bank with an Egyptologist: three tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the terraced temple of Hatshepsut and a stop at the Colossi of Memnon.
If you only have a morning for the West Bank, this is the way to spend it. We pick you up from your hotel early, before the heat builds, and drive across the Nile to the Valley of the Kings, the barren limestone valley where the pharaohs of the New Kingdom were laid to rest for some 500 years.
Your ticket covers three tombs, and your Egyptologist guide helps you choose the best of those open that day. Long corridors slope down into the rock, their walls covered with painted hieroglyphs, gods and the sun's journey through the night. Tutankhamun's tomb is available with an optional extra ticket.
Next comes the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, a striking terraced building beneath the cliffs, raised for one of the few women to rule Egypt as pharaoh. On the way back you stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two weathered giants standing in the fields, before returning to your hotel about five hours after pickup.
