Overview
A long, well-paced day from Luxor: an early flight to Cairo, the Giza pyramids and the Sphinx, lunch, the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square and an evening flight back.
If your trip is built around Luxor but you can't leave Egypt without seeing the pyramids, this day makes it possible. We collect you from your hotel before dawn and take you to Luxor airport for the short flight north, a little over an hour in the air. In Cairo your Egyptologist guide and driver are waiting for you at arrivals.
First comes the Giza plateau: the Great Pyramid up close, the panoramic viewpoint where all three pyramids line up against the desert, and the Sphinx crouched in front of Khafre's Valley Temple. After lunch in a local restaurant you cross the city to the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square, its old galleries crowded with Old Kingdom statues, painted coffins and jewellery. Tutankhamun's treasures have moved to the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, so this visit focuses on the museum's older collections.
In the evening your guide sees you to Cairo airport for the flight back, and a driver meets you in Luxor and takes you to your hotel. It's a long day, around 12 hours in total, but a comfortable way to fit Cairo's two great sights into a stay in Upper Egypt.

Day 1
Luxor → Cairo by air → Giza pyramids → Egyptian Museum → Luxor
Early pickup in Luxor and the morning flight to Cairo, where your guide meets you on arrival. A guided visit to the Giza plateau, the panoramic viewpoint and the Sphinx is followed by lunch in a local restaurant. The afternoon is spent at the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square before the transfer to Cairo airport for the evening flight back. Expect a full day of around 12 hours, ending with the drive to your Luxor hotel.
