Overview
A long day from Luxor to Aswan by road, with a guided visit to the island Temple of Philae, lunch included and time by the Nile in Aswan.
Aswan lies about three to three and a half hours south of Luxor by road, and the drive follows the Nile valley almost the whole way, with fields and palm groves on one side and desert hills on the other. We pick you up early from your hotel or cruise boat, and your guide uses the journey to set the scene for the day.
The highlight is Philae, the temple of Isis, reached by a short motorboat ride across the water. The whole complex was moved stone by stone to Agilkia Island in the 1970s to save it from the rising waters after the Aswan dams were built, and today it rises from the river among smooth granite rocks.
Lunch is included in Aswan, where the Nile is at its prettiest, wide and blue among granite islands and white-sailed feluccas. Then it's the long drive back north, reaching Luxor about ten hours after pickup.
