Overview
A full day south of Luxor with a guide, visiting the Temple of Horus at Edfu and the riverside double temple of Kom Ombo.
Most travellers see Edfu and Kom Ombo from a cruise ship; this day trip brings them within reach by road. We pick you up from your hotel or cruise boat in Luxor and drive south along the Nile for about two hours to Edfu, past sugarcane, palms and mud-brick villages.
The Temple of Horus at Edfu is the most complete temple in Egypt. Built under the Ptolemies and buried in sand for centuries, it kept its towering pylon, roof and inner sanctuary intact, and your guide reads the walls with you, including the carved story of Horus's battle with Seth.
About an hour further south, Kom Ombo stands right on a bend of the river. It is unusual for being a double temple, with twin entrances and sanctuaries for the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon-headed Haroeris. After the visit you drive back to Luxor, arriving about eight hours after pickup.

Day 1
Luxor → Edfu → Kom Ombo → Luxor
Early pickup and a drive of about two hours south to Edfu for the Temple of Horus. Continue about an hour further to the double temple of Kom Ombo on the riverbank. Drive back north to Luxor, arriving about eight hours after pickup.
