Cairo Layover: Pyramids, Museum, Bazaar & Sound and Light

If your onward flight leaves late in the evening, this tour fills the day and ends with the pyramids lit up after dark. Your guide meets you at the airport after passport control and heads first to the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square, where statues of pharaohs, painted coffins and everyday objects fill room after room; Tutankhamun's treasures are now at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza.

Next you wander the lanes of Khan el-Khalili, Cairo's medieval bazaar, with its lantern shops, spice stalls and old coffee houses, before driving out to Giza in the afternoon. Your guide walks you around the Great Pyramid and its neighbours and down to the Sphinx as the stone turns golden in the low sun.

After dark, the Sound and Light Show plays out across the plateau, with coloured lights on the pyramids and the voice of the Sphinx telling the story of ancient Egypt. Dinner can be added before the transfer back to the airport, about ten hours after pickup.
