Overview

Two full days of guided touring, Giza, Saqqara and Memphis, then the Egyptian Museum, the Citadel and Khan el-Khalili, plus a free day to see Cairo at your own pace.

This is our simplest way to see Cairo properly without overspending. You stay four nights in a 3-star hotel with breakfast, and the two touring days cover the sights most people come for, led by an Egyptologist guide.

The first takes you to Giza for the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the Valley Temple and the Sphinx, with a short camel ride included, then on to Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saqqara and the ruins of Memphis, Egypt's first capital. The second starts at the Egyptian Museum, climbs to Saladin's Citadel and the Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali, and ends in Khan el-Khalili.

Day four is yours to rest or explore the city independently, or you can add a day trip to Alexandria for the catacombs, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Qaitbay Citadel at extra cost. Lunches are not included, which leaves you free to eat where you like.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Cairo
Whatever time you land, our representative is waiting at Cairo International Airport to help with formalities and luggage. A private air-conditioned transfer brings you to your hotel to check in and settle. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 2
Giza, Saqqara & Memphis
Pickup at 8:00 for the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the Valley Temple of Khafre and a close look at the Sphinx, with a short camel ride on the plateau. You continue to Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saqqara, built around 2650 BC, and to Memphis for the colossus of Ramses II. Back at your hotel by about 16:00. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 3
Egyptian Museum, Citadel & Khan el-Khalili
An 8:00 pickup for the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square and its vast collection of antiquities. Then up to Saladin's 12th-century Citadel and the Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali, with views over the city, and finally the bazaar of Khan el-Khalili. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 4
Free day (optional Alexandria trip)
A day to rest or explore Cairo on your own. If you would like to see the coast, an optional day trip to Alexandria takes in the Roman theatre, the catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa, Montazah Gardens, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Qaitbay Citadel and the mosque of El-Mursi Abu el-Abbas, returning in the evening. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 5
Departure from Cairo
Breakfast at the hotel, then check-out and a private transfer to Cairo International Airport at a time that suits your flight. Our representative stays with you through the departure formalities.
